MD Admission Procedure in India

The admission procedure for MD (Doctor of Medicine) programs in India generally follows these steps:

1. Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from a recognized medical college or university. They should have completed a one-year internship or rotational compulsory residential training as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI).
2. Entrance Examinations: Many medical colleges and universities require candidates to qualify in national or state-level entrance examinations such as NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate courses) or state-specific PG medical entrance exams. Admission is usually based on merit rankings in these entrance exams.
3. Minimum Marks Requirement: Candidates are often required to achieve a minimum aggregate score in their MBBS degree, typically around 50% to 55% marks, although this can vary depending on the institution and the competition.
4. Internship Completion: It is essential for candidates to have completed their compulsory internship as part of their MBBS degree program. Proof of internship completion is usually required during the application process.
5. Registration with Medical Council: Candidates must be registered with the State Medical Council or the Medical Council of India (MCI) to practice medicine in India. This registration is typically mandatory for admission to postgraduate medical courses.
6. Entrance Exam Counselling: Qualified candidates are then called for counselling sessions where they can select their preferred specialization and college based on their merit rank and availability of seats.
